How to Reduce Stress:  Many people do not include relaxation time in their schedules.  Conscious relaxation is important for your body and mind and can help you deal with the negatives of stress.


1. Time Management :

Effective time management allows the amount of work or other commitments undertaken to be regulated, reduces the uncertainty of not having enough time to complete every task required and allows for the planning of time off periods in which to relax.



2. Reduce the Demands on Yourself :

Do not over commit yourself and be prepared to say No if the load is too great.  It is common for people to overestimate  how much can be achieved in a particular space of time, so leave free time to cope with the unexpected.  Simplify your schedule.  A  hectic schedule is a major cause of high stress.  Simplify by reducing the number of commitments in your life to just the essential ones.  Do not spend all of your time in your bedroom or the computer lab.



3. Ensure that You Get Enough Fun Out of Life :

Plan time in the day to do something that gives you pleasure.  Looking forward to such times helps when you have to cope with less pleasant aspects of life.  Listen to Good music whenever you get time. Focus as much as possible on doing one thing at a time.  Clear your desk of distractions. Review your daily and weekly activities to see what you can pick off your plate.  Reducing your stack of negotiable tasks can greatly reduce your stress.

Positive thinking will let you do every thing better than negative thinking will. Do not do well on failures and reward yourself for your successes.  Accept that everyone has limits and cannot succeed at everything.  Reflect on what you have achieved.

Find a friend.  Relationships in your life can restore meaning, hope, and relaxation.  Don't let your friends be sucked into the cycle of you burning out.  Let them be the respite from that stress.  Share your feelings with those you love, and let them help you beat the burnout.

A strong network of supportive friends and family members can be an enormous buffer against life's stress.  On the flip side, the more lonely and isolated you are, the greater your vulnerability to stress.

The best way to reduce stress quickly and reliably is by using your senses.  What you see, hear, smell, taste, and touch or movement.  You are extremely vulnerable to stress if you don't know how to calm and soothe yourself when you are feeling sad, angry, or overwhelmed by a situation.


The ability to bring your emotions into balance helps you bounce back from adversity and is a skill that can be learned at any age. Not everyone responds to each sensory experience in the same way.  Something that relaxes one person may do nothing but irritate someone else. The key is to experiment with your senses  and discover the sensory experiences that work best for you.


7. Your Knowledge And Preparation :

The more you know about a stressful situation, including how long it will last and what to expect , the easier it is to cope.  For example, if you go into surgery with a realistic picture of what to expect post - operation, a painful recovery will be less traumatic than if you were expecting to bounce back immediately.


8. Learn To Recognize When You are Stressed :

Knowing what is likely to cause stress can is likely to cause stress can help avoid such things in the future.  Keep a record of what situations make you stressful and see how you might deal with them in other ways in the future.  It's so much easier to manage pockets of stress when the rest of your life is filled with activities you love.  Even if your job is stress central, you can find one hobby or two that enrich  your world. What are you passionate about? If you are not sure, experiment with a variety of activities to find something that's especially meaningful and fulfilling.

Other than getting active, improving your health overall will help with the stress.  But do it one habit at a time.  Eat fruits and veggies for snacks.  Floss every day.  Quit smoking.  Cook something healthy for dinner.  Drink water instead of soda.  One habit at a time.

Maintain a favorite hobby.  When we get stressed and anxious, it's easy to push hobbies to the side and focus on priorities.  However, by leaving out any free time for yourself, you may be making yourself more stressed.  Return to a lost hobby by playing your favorite sport, picking up your art journal, or heading out for a hike.  You will feel  refreshed and better able to deal with your stress.  When you have given your self time to do something you love.


10. Sun Light :

Head outside.  Sunlight is a natural cure for depression, which is tied to stress and anxiety.  Even if you are not able to get sunlight, mother nature provides excellent stress relief via the great outdoors.  Walk through a park, hike up to a mountain, go for a fishing trip- whatever interests you. Just get outside to do it. It's hard to be stressed when you are witnessing the beauty of the natural world, while putting your body to work at the same time.
